The Adult Bible Study group meets at noon on Thursdays from September to June.We have just finished the Book of Esther and will now be looking into the Book Of Romans. Some of us snack while others eat a healthy lunch. The Book of Esther never mentioned the name of God, prayer, covenant, or any of the words that you would expect to see in the Canon, but throughout the book, you felt God's presence and His will. Esther, in her position as Queen, was able to save her fellow Jews from extinction.
So join us at noon on Thursdays at 12:00, and explore the Book of Romans with us. Don't forget your lunch!!
Participate in our Lenten Study this year on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 from Feb.28 through March 28.
Meeting at the Manse, we’ll gather for a five week study on prayer presented by Rev. Andrew Tibert.
Topics will include:What Is a Prayer?
Why Do We Pray?
Individual and Corporate Prayer
Directing Prayer... Inward...Upward... and... Outward
When God Doesn’t Answer
Learning to Hear God’s Voice
This is a great opportunity for new folks and Hope veterans to explore many facets of prayer, each of us moving beyond where we start out. Take the opportunity during Lent to come on over to the Manse and be instructed in and experience the power of prayer.
Sign up at the desk in the narthex or email kathylou4@comcast.net . Notify us through sign-up or email if our babysitting service at the church will be needed by you for a nominal fee.
In the Spring of 2006, Adult Ed. took a new turn at Hope with the inauguration of "DVD and DINNER" evenings. The first evening consisted of a soup and bread buffet paired with the viewing of Who Is Jesus? Interestingly enough, our criticism of some of the responses of the taped "experts" led to a lively discussion, helping us all to affirm who Jesus is to each of us.Our second evening was "PASTA and DAVINCI" with lasagna, garlic bread, salad and baked desserts. With the uproar about the release of The DaVinci Code movie, we all wanted some assistance separating fact from fiction. The DVD clarified the facts about Biblical scholarship and translation accuracy, as well as the role of Emperor Constantine. Enthusiastic internet buffs brought their own research, plus CDs of related lectures. Another lively evening of information and fellowship!
We’ll have more such evenings in ’06-’07, including a showing of the acclaimed film The End of the Spear, a DVD contrasting Jesus and Herod, and a family film night featuring The Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe.
